Dallas Trip + Stay at Le Meridian Hotel
Besides the fact that I wanted to write a quick post about what a nice and relaxing time Bobby and I had in Dallas….I also wanted to share with you, some pictures I took of the hotel branding from Le Meridian (where we stayed on Sunday night.) Not only was our room excellent and totally stunning, but I couldn’t help but notice the subtle touches they made with the branding, keys, hotel decor…that really brought the whole experience together.
On the bed in the master bedroom laid a felt-constructed folder to hold the dining menu, important info cards, an adorable do-not-disturb hanger, and a complimentary card with envelope to send something out for business. There were also these great little paper coasters around the room that had funny and/or inspiring quotes on them. My favorite quote in the room was the one lying underneath a water glass illuminated by a chandelier in the master bedroom. It read, “Let us have wine and women, mirth and laughter, sermons and soda water the day after.” -Lord Byron
Ok so onto our great and relaxing trip to Dallas, in which Bobby refused to make any plans (big thank you to him for that considering how awesome the weekend went!)…we got to see Melissa + Juan, Graeme + Geoff, Kris + Jessica, Jason, Jen + Melissa….not in that order or necessarily denoting couples, but you get my drift. lol.
So we got in Friday afternoon and went out to Frisco to see Kris + Jessica’s new house and also to congratulate the lucky couple on their news of twins on the way. :) We grabbed some yummy Mexican food at Mattito’s Texmex Cocina and chatted for a bit before we knew we were late for our next stop: “HH” at Flying Saucer in Addison. Melissa and Juan were already at happy hour with Melissa’s work peeps, so we thought we’d crash the party and show up for some beers. :)
Later, we headed over to Sneaky Pete’s in Lewisville – this is a big outdoor sports bar with volleyball courts, pools, and a boat dock next door. I’ve not seen anything like this – pretty cool spring break style (sort of like Castaways at North Beach but less packed + more chill). :) Saturday we literally slothed around at M + J’s place until 2 or 3PM – Bobby slept until noon and Juan made us some AWESOME french bread french toast with cinnamon bananas stuffed in the middle – uh, YUMMO. Then we proceeded to watch the Giada De Laurentiis on Food Network (she’s just so CUTE!) for a couple hours, go shopping…and later headed to dinner at another Mexican place Chuy’s in Dallas – yes, this is the 2nd Mexican restaurant in two days. Yes I confess, I cannot stop eating those tortilla chips!
Saturday night we stayed with Graeme + Geoff in Addison and I accidentally kicked Graeme out of his bed and made him sleep on the couch. Oops! Again on Sunday we didn’t do much all morning except watch “The Hangover” again and laugh our @$$es off while Graeme went to his soccer game and Geoff left for a hair cut. Then we decided to grab some beers and wings at Hooters with the clan. Graeme insisted I try the Daytona sauce and I must thank him for the good advice. :) I then proceeded to drink too many bud lights and take a nap afterward. Haha!
All in all a fun and relaxing day to be remembered. :)
After my nappy-nap, we checked into our hotel and grabbed some drinks and appetizers at the hotel bar with Graeme and discovered a very strange coffee table book that we decided to thumb through for laughs. It was an early night since normal people have to work on Mondays, but a nice end to the weekend with good food and more importantly good company.
Today Bobby + I headed to the Galleria after sleeping in way longer than we thought we would and met Melissa for lunch at the Paradise Bakery – where we had another enjoyable bit of food and conversation. The Paradise Pesto sauce is amazing and I also loved the Paradise Club sandwich.
Sadly we said goodbye to Melissa since she had to return to work and headed back to the mall. Instead of shopping we decided to go ice skating! I know, totally random! I cannot tell you how long it’s been since I have ice skated + whether or not I was ever good at it, but I ended up doing great and we had a blast playing there for awhile before heading back to DFW.
Great weekend. Period!
That sounds like about the perfect weekend…so nice to get away like that once in a while and just put all the craziness of life on the back-burner for a few days.
Love that branding at Le Meridian…and a perfect example of how a brand extends sooo much farther than just a logo design. In this case, it’s everything from the way you were greeted at the door to the feeling of the soft comforter, the extra necessities in your room, and the thought-proviking messaging on the coasters…All of us designers can learn a little bit from what you experienced there.
